Worship Folder Sunday, October 21

There is no doubt that climate change is already happening on this earth. The results of a changing climate present us with moral and ethical issues as we see, and will continue to see, the displacement of people due changing environments. As Christians, we are called to care for creation. And, as Christians, we are called to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. So, on this day, we ask who is my neighbor? Who is my neighbor in a climate changing world? Our neighbors are those next to us. They are the future generations, the children. They are our brothers and sisters who are economically challenged. They are the nations of the world. They are the refugees and immigrants who are being affected by climate change. And my neighbor is also, as St. Francis of Assisi would say, everyone and everything. All the elements, all of the creatures, even the plants. What it really comes down to is this: Are we following this basic command to put love into action?
