Lutheran World Relief Needs your Help!

WE ARE COLLECTING ITEMS FOR PERSONAL CARE KITS FOR LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF
As some of you already know, the city of Beirut, Lebanon, is in crisis. The August 4 explosion took many lives and flattened an entire portion of the city. Unfortunately, this disaster created a setback for Lutheran World Relief programs. The blast destroyed three of LWR’s 40-foot shipping containers, which were stored in the port and held more than 22,000 LWR Mission Quilts, 100 cartons of School Kits, 300 cartons of Personal Care Kits and 125 cartons of Baby Care Kits that were being prepared for distribution. Now an estimated 24,550 men, women and children who were already in great need will not receive these essential supplies.
So, we are going to help.  Over the next month and a half, we will be collecting the following items for Personal Care Kits to send to LWR.  We will be collecting the following items:

  • Light-weight bath-size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark color recommended
  • Bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping
  • Adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging* (Toothbrush multi-packs may be used by sealing an individual toothbrush in a business-size envelope)
  • Sturdy comb, remove packaging
  • Metal nail clippers (attached file optional), remove packaging

These kits will be assembled during the
STAND FOR JUSTICE / GOD’S WORK OUR HANDS DAY
Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

SOME IMPORTANT GUIDELINES TO REMEMBER
• Be sure to shop for light- or medium-weight towels, which are easier for kit recipients to hand wash and air dry, take up less storage space and are considerably less expensive than the fluffier towels we may prefer to use.
• Please give new items only.
• Please do not donate items with any religious symbols, messages or your group’s name.
• Please do not donate any items decorated with a U.S. flag, patriotic or military symbols, or references to the armed forces, including camouflage.
• Do not add other items or leave out any of the items listed.
• All items should be new and in good condition.
All items can be dropped off at church on Friday mornings between 10:00 & 10:45 AM.  Or, you may bring them to worship on Sunday morning.
