Ellen Schoepf, Pastor
Pastor Ellen Schoepf grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. Pastor Ellen’s first career was music. She majored in organ performance and minored in piano performance. Having a passion and love for worship and the life of the church, Pastor Ellen spent much of her life serving as Music Director in various churches. Theology has also been one of her life-long passions. In 2007 she finally made the decision to go back to school and get her Masters of Divinity Degree, something that had been gnawing at her heart since high school.
Pastor Ellen’s first call was to St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Portland, Maine where she began serving in 2012. After making the decision to move back to Michigan where she and her husband can be closer to family, Pastor Ellen took a call to Faith Lutheran Church in Okemos and began serving the people of Faith in February of 2015. Pastor Ellen and her husband, Ken, live in Williamston, MI.
Director of Christian Education
Katie was born in Bay City Michigan and moved to Okemos at the age of 6. She graduated from Okemos High School in 2000 and currently resides with her family in Okemos. She and her husband Gordon will be celebrating 12 years of marriage at the end of the month. Gordon and Katie have 3 children. Graham and Olivia are 7 and will be second graders at Bennett Woods in the fall. Sofie will be 5 in October and she will be in Begindergarten at Central Elementary.
Gordon and Katie owned the Wedding Bell Bridal Salon in Central Park Place in Okemos for 10 years. They deeply enjoyed being part of the business community and helping brides and their families prepare for their wedding day.
In her spare time Katie loves spending time with family, being a part of her children’s sporting events and being involved in the community. Katie’s family teaches a Sunday school for kids at the Homeless Angels Hotel once a week where they have loved getting to know the kids at the hotel.
Fun Fact: The wonderful Mrs. Borton was Katie’s elementary school music teacher. Katie still remembers the hula dance Mrs. Borton taught her class for the spaghetti dinner one year!
Deb Borton-McDonough taught vocal/choral music in the Okemos Public Schools from 1989 – 2014. She directed taught the choirs at Okemos High School, Chippewa and Kinawa Middle Schools; she also taught elementary general music at Wardcliff, Hiawatha, and Cornell Elementary schools. Deb has served as the Director of Music Ministry at various churches over the past 35 years, including Faith Lutheran from 2000 – 2010, and 2014 – present. A graduate of St. Olaf College, Deb has been the subject of published graduate research at Michigan State University, which recognizes her innovative approach to teaching.
Bruce Williams, Organist
Bruce Williams has been a church organist, recital accompanist and piano teacher in the Lansing area for over 40 years. He earned an undergraduate degree in piano and organ performance from the University of Delaware, and a graduate degree in music theory from MSU. He teaches at Marshall Music and accompanies the Lansing Matinee Musicale Choral Ensemble. Bruce is a frequent guest organist with the Steiner Chorale. He joined the staff at Faith in April 2011.
